I’m interviewing The Misfits, the authors of “Hurry Home”, a supernatural coming-of-age adventure. Thanks for answering my questions, Misfits!
1. Please tell us about yourself.
M: I will be 27 next month and am expecting my first child. I love to read and write more than anything else in the world.
A: I just recently turned 18. I am going to be attending Dream Center in L.A. for a year for missionary work. I love writing and helping people.
2. Tell us about your book.
M and A: Hurry Home is a book about a child finding herself and becoming a woman, and a father who is learning to let go
3. What inspired you to write Hurry Home?
M and A: The song Hurry Home by Jason Micheal Carroll is what inspired the story. We used our love of the supernatural to give it a little spin, though
4. How much time per week do you spend writing/editing your?
M: I usually spend 18 hours a week writing. I usually finish a whole project before I start editing then I devote the 18 hours a week to editing.
A: I spend at least 30 hours a week writing or editing. I also spend about that much time doing business related activities for the book.
5. If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?
M: J.K. Rowling because she started with nothing but an idea. She wrote it, put it out there, and didn’t give up until someone said yes. Laurell K. Hamilton because she taught me that it is okay for writing to be dark and sexual without being smutty or disgusting. And Sherrilyn Kenyon because she too writes dark, but beautiful stories. Both Hamilton and Kenyon write what and how they want without caring if people like it or not.
A: The Grimm Brothers because they taught me that not everything has a happy ending. Edgar Allen Poe because he taught me how to write horror and suspense. The way he writes is beautiful. Finally, Plato because I love philosophy and I would have loved to study under him.
6. What are you working on at the moment?
M: It is about a princess from another world. She had her memory stolen from her and was sent to live in our world for her own protection. The story is about her getting those memories back and returning to take her rightful place on the throne.
A: I am working on a futuristic dystopian story about lack of privacy in America. In this novel there is no privacy between people and their government. The main character – Zeppelin- gets drafted into the privacy department of the government and learns all the secrets they are hiding.
