I’m hosting an interview today with Alex Flyn, author of contemporary romance novella “King of Cups.”

1) Please tell us about yourself.

My name is Anastasia, but I chose to publish my first books under the pen name of Alex Flyn.

I live in Russia and I love travelling, I’ve been to several countries in Europe and Asia, as well as the US and Canada, and those were such amazing experiences I’m hoping to turn them into stories as well one day.

In June I’m turning 26. I love cats, television shows and, of course, reading and writing.
I love the Harry Potter series, it was my inspiration to become a writer, and currently I’m reading A Song of Ice and Fire saga. I also enjoy short stories and fan fiction.

2) Tell us about your book.

It’s a story of romance with a little dash of sports. I know it seems like it’s going to be all sports, but the story is actually about a couple that has to overcome several obstacles on their way to theoretical happiness. It so happens that one of them is a football (soccer) player, and there are some twists to how their story develops and their backstory is quite interesting as well.

3) What inspired you to write King of Cups?

The passion and intrigue of the world of football (soccer). I love this game and it can be so emotional sometimes, that I was really inspired by the way it affected people’s lives.
It’s a beautiful game and I wanted to show how real life can affect professional players as well. They’re people too and you can’t forget that. They eat, they sleep, they want to have fun, and they can fall in love too.

4) How many hours do you write per week?

Depends on how much time I have off, because naturally, I have a full-time job. 10-15 hours a week on average, I guess. I set up different goals, but in reality have to alter them to suit my schedule.

5) If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?

J.K. Rowling, Stephen King and George R.R. Martin. All for different reasons.

 6) What are you working on at the moment?

Parts two and three of King Of Cups, which will be called “The Second Half” and “Extra Time” respectively and together all three will make a complete novella.
I’ve been working on a series of fantasy/new adult novels for eight years now, they were my first attempt at writing and only recently I was able to figure out exactly how to tie all loose ends, so I’m all ready to have this done.

At 18 years of age, during a long train journey, Alex simply wondered if it was possible to write a book, and decided to put the idea to the test. Starting in coffee shops, Alex penned three manuscripts, and now, almost eight years later, is proud to share the results of all the plotting, typing and coffeeing in the first e-novella, with more on the way.
