I’m hosting an interview today with Dielle Ciesco, author of metaphysical / inspirational fiction novel “The Unknown Mother”. Enjoy the interview!
1) Please tell us about yourself.
Well, right now, I live in Asheville, NC, where I’ve had a coaching/healing practice for the last 8 years (DielleCiesco.com), but I recently married my book’s designer, Stuart Davies, so I’ll be moving to France where he’s been the past 10 years. It’s quite a process…moving overseas. Thanks to the miracle of Skype, I can keep working with clients via the net, and I can also keep writing and editing books. I love to create, be by the ocean, and see beautiful things that make me go “Ahhh”. And chocolate! Don’t forget the chocolate!
2) Tell us about your book.
The Unknown Mother: A Magical Walk with the Goddess of Sound is the story of a woman destined to discover the power of her very own voice. In a dark night of the soul, she meets a Matrika or being that presides over the sounds of language taking her on as a student. This beguiling and eccentric teacher guides her on a deep and powerful journey through 10 mystical gates of sound, sharing great insights, secrets, and profound wisdom about the power of breath, letters, words, and sound to transform the world around us.
3) What inspired you to write The Unknown Mother?
My experiences with Sound Healing and on the Toltec path of personal freedom. This book pretty much encapsulates everything I’ve learned since 2000 on my own journey but it’s worked into fiction. I really wanted to share my experiences with others and hopefully turn people on to the power of sound, words, thoughts, and breath…what I call the 10 Gates of Sound…because we all have access and we can all benefit from working with these energies. They’ve been completely transforming for me.
4) How many hours per week do you spend writing?
I write something everyday it seems, though mostly for myself. Journaling is how I process my life. I take a different approach with my books in that I move when inspiration strikes. Sometimes, I go for long periods not working on a particular project; I’ve learned to trust in this incubation period. And when I finally do return to the project, as if bidden by an unseen hand, the writing is swift and fairly effortless. I am endlessly fascinated with the process.
5) If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?
Great question. Since I’ve already had the honor to meet and work with don Miguel Ruiz (The Four Agreements), Paulo Coelho is on the top of my list. Love his work. His books are full of surprises that never fail to delight. One of my absolute favorites of his is The 5th Mountain. And though he’s dead, I would also like to meet Maurice Maeterlinck who wrote The Blue Bird, which is a fairytale about spirituality. As I sit here and think, I realize my third choice is also gone, but I would love to meet and study with Hazrat Inayat Khan, author of The Music of Life, a hugely influential work for me about the mysticism of sound and music.
6) What are you working on at the moment?
My 2nd book, Your True Voice: A Transformational Journey through the 10 Gates of Sound, the non-fiction companion to the first, was just recently accepted for publication by Anyi Books, so I’m very excited about that. It pulls out a lot of the teachings and exercises that were interwoven into the story so that readers can have their own magical walk through the 10 Gates of Sound, and it also introduces the shamanic voicework I’ve been doing with clients. I’m very happy with it because I was able to entwine the magic of fiction along-side the non-fictional elements. Since not everyone can work with me, if readers want to delve deeper into the work, they’ll soon have a great tool to do that.
Thanks so much for the interview. It’s been a pleasure.
The Unknown Mother
Author: Dielle Ciesco
Genre: Metaphysical / Inspirational Fiction
It isn’t every day that one meets a goddess, let alone a Matrika or being that presides over the sounds of language. It is said such deities can bring us complete liberation. Will that prove true for a struggling vocalist named Wrenne when a mysterious woman appears and offers to help her find her True Voice? This beguiling and eccentric teacher guides us all on a deep and powerful journey through 10 mystical gates of sound, sharing great insights, secrets, and profound wisdom about the power of letters, words, and our very own voice to transform the world around us.
Did you know that “Abracadabra” comes from the Aramaic…” abraq ad habra”, which literally translates to “I will create as I speak”? The message of The Unknown Mother is to reawaken people to this truth and to that which we habitually take for granted…the power of the voice. When we bring our awareness to our voice and learn to express it in new ways, with impeccability, we rediscover our true message. Voice is the key to unlocking our power and magnificence. The Unknown Mother is an adventure for lovers of word, sound, and voice taking the reader into these heart of sonic mysteries. This isn’t standard knowledge; this is a gift for our times.
