I’m hosting Marie Morgan on my blog today. She’s the author of erotica series “The Island”. She’s now touring with her first book, “Getting Lost”. Enjoy the interview!

Author Interview

1) Please tell us about yourself.

Oh, I’m a middle-aged woman who devours books by the hundreds and lives in the area around Hot-Lanta, Georgia. I grew up in a small town and was the biggest tom-boy you could imagine. My neighborhood was filled with boys and I was always looking for a way to best them. Bike races, war games, and fishing were staples in my life. Because of my closeness with the male species, I know inside information most women would die to be privy to.

2) Tell us about your book.

My book! Getting Lost is such a dear to my heart. Cicily is one of those young women who gets burned by a man just when she needs him most. Her journey is one of healing and learning to use a power that resides in all of us to better her own life and save her sanity. She’s a rebel in her own way. There are many places in the story where her fiery temper gets her in trouble, and her bullheaded ways create some humor. This poor young lady has serious control issues she’s just beginning to overcome. Here’s the synopsis:

Cicily Welling lost everything she cared about. On a dangerous path of self-destruction, she finds a website announcing The Island, saying how they can help those with “emotional problems.”

With much trepidation, she fills out the form and clicks submit, launching herself into a world she never knew existed. It all starts with him. He tells her she’ll heal and makes grand promises that she’ll never be a doormat again.

Now, getting lost is the only way she’ll be able to find herself. In this first book of The Island trilogy, Cicily finds out just how delicious getting lost can be.

I tried to keep it short and not give away too much of what’s between the pages. I want it to be a total surprise.

3) What inspired you to write Getting Lost?

I think too many people are ashamed of their own desires. I’d like to show them it’s okay to let go and get lost with someone they trust. Too many books that are only about having mindless sex, the language of it all, and dwell on experiencing instant love have been popping up in the Erotica market since the one that took the world by storm. I think there’s a hole needing to be filled; calling for something that pulls at a reader’s heart and lets them know they have a power inside they can tap into. Great sex is about allowing yourself to feel something; about getting lost in the moment and coming away fulfilled—and perhaps changed by the experience. There’s more to BDSM than sex. It’s an emotional thrill-ride everyone can have a ticket to.

4) How many hours per week do you spend writing?

Too many. Seriously, I’m a workaholic of the worst kind. If I had to break it out I’d say it’s probably around thirty. Add that to a full-time job and you have a pretty full week. But I love it.

5) If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?

Anne Rice: Because I think she “gets it” in a way no other Erotica author could. Her Beauty series was the first leap into the genre I took. I’ve idolized her a little ever since. Jane Austen: Her command of the English language is something I admire greatly. J.K. Rowling: Because she never gave up on herself; even after she was told “no” over and over again.

6) What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on the second book in The Island series: Crossroads. It should be out mid-2014. Sooner if I can finish up a couple of other projects that are non-writing related. Holidays are always difficult to work around.

Thanks for the interview! That was a lot of fun.
