Author Interview

Please tell us about yourself.

I am a university professor, who doubles as a romance writer. I live outside Phoenix, Arizona with my husband and our bloodhounds. When I’m not writing, I enjoy reading, watching movies and traveling.

Tell us about your books.

As Dakota Madison, I write contemporary romance novels, most of which are in the New Adult category. After completing last year’s National Novel Writing month in November, I decided to write 12 novels in 12 months. I am just finishing up the final novel of that quest.

What inspired you to write the Fire on Ice series?

My husband was born and raised in Canada and he’s a hockey fanatic. I occasionally watch hockey with him and I’ve always found hockey players quite sexy. I decided to write a series featuring a hockey player as the love interest. Of course, to add conflict, the main female character needed to be someone, who hates hockey and would never date a hockey player.

How many hours per week do you spend writing?

I spend about 20 hours a week writing. I get up every morning at about 4:30 and write before I get ready for work. I often write on my lunch hours and I spend extra time weekend mornings writing. It adds up pretty quickly!

If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?

Do they have to be living? I’ve always been facinated with Oscar Wilde and thought he would be interesting to meet. Of course, he lived a few centuries ago! I am also a huge fan of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books and would have loved to have met Steig Larsson before he died. I’d also like to meet Stephen King. Even though I’m not a huge fan of horror, he’s such a prolific writer, I’d love to pick his brain.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently working on a contemporary romance called Community Service. I wasn’t planning on the love interest using a wheel chair but when he appeared, he used one! Then the task was to make him sexy, wheelchair and all. I’ve also had to do a lot of research on spinal cord injuries, which has been enlightening.
