Author Interview with Edward Torba

I’m interviewing author Edward Torba today. Edward is the author of MG fantasy/mystery novel “Matt Monroe and The Secret Society”. Thank you for answering my questions, Edward!

Author Interview

Please tell us about yourself.

I am a general dentist who has practiced in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for the past 36 years. I attended the University of Pittsburgh for both my B.S. degree and my D.M.D. degree. I have always been an avid reader and dabbled in journalistic writing while in college. My interests include sports [coached youth football and high school football], travel, gardening, and of course writing.

Tell us about your book.

First of all the book is written primarily for boys ages 8 thru 14 years of age. But, hopefully, it is interesting to any reader who is young at heart. It is a mystery rapped in fantasy that shows the bonds of friendship, betrayal, and ultimately redemption of the characters. It is a battle between good versus evil; a choice between good and evil.

What inspired you to write Matt Monroe and the Secret Society?

As I said earlier I like to read, and there was very little fiction written about dentistry; maybe that is because it is a frightening experience for some. So I decided to pen a story for middle school children [especially boys] that would delve into dental lore. The story would be a mystery and would explain how much of what we know about dental fantasy came to be. With my background in the dental field it was easy to use my imagination to create the world of Paragon [Toothland] and the creatures that inhabit this magical place.

How many hours per week do you spend writing?

It varies. Some weeks I get little time to actually sit down and write; although, my mind is always working overtime on the next scene in my new book. Usually I spend about 20 hours per week sitting down and the computer and actually typing what is in my head.

If you could meet three authors, which authors would you choose?

This is an easy one. The authors [living and dead] I would love to meet would be C.S. Lewis and R. K. Rowling because of their great juvenile fantasy writing. But the author whom I admire the most is Charles Dickens. My ultimate goal is to pen a book that is worthy of Dickens.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am in the  middle of the second book in the Matt Monroe series. It is called Matt Monroe and the Haunted House. This book is a continuation of the story from book I. It also will be filled with intrigue and fantasy.
