I’m having Clare Davidson as my guest on my blog today. She’ll talk about her self-published book, Trinity, and about some of her upcoming projects. Thanks for answering my interview questions, Clare!
1) Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m in an incurable daydreamer. Ever since I can remember I’ve allowed my mind to drift off into imagined realms, with make believe characters, which is probably why I write! On a more sensible note, I’m also a mother, wife and teacher. I hate housework (who doesn’t) and would much rather be reading or writing than spending time hoovering! I love travelling, which is entirely my parents’ fault, as they gave me the travel bug by taking me to live in the tropics for four and a half years. My life is pretty much a balancing act between my responsibilities and my dreams.
2) Tell us about your book in five sentences or less.
Trinity is a young adult fantasy about setting right past wrongs, on an epic scale. At the same time, Kiana, Nidan and Skaric have to come to terms with those past wrongs–both those out of their control and those they’re responsible for. They have to escape hatred and prejudice in their attempt to do the impossible–resurrect a goddess.
3) Where did you get the inspiration for Trintiy?
I got my inspiration from watching anime, specifically Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle by Clamp. Tsubasa follows an ensemble cast of four protagonists, who go on an epic journey (literally reality/world hopping), to restore the memories of one of their group. I loved the camaraderie between the central characters, even though they all had different motivations and didn’t always see eye to eye. Plus, it’s a fun story.
4) How many books are you planning in the Trinity series?
Trinity was always written as a standalone novel. That said, I’ve been bowled over with the response of readers, many of whom had requested a prequel or a sequel. I’m currently working on a prequel. There’s a lot of questions left unanswered about how and why the goddess Miale died, why the war began and why the Wolves were vilified to the point of segregation from the rest of Gettryne.
5) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Enjoy it. If you’re not enjoying writing and editing (yes, editing) a book, you can’t expect readers to enjoy reading it!
6) What are you working on right now?
Aside from the prequel to Trinity? I’m currently editing a young adult urban fantasy novel, which should be released later this year.
Thanks for inviting me over for a chat, Cassidy, it’s been fun.
Thanks for answering my questions, Clare!
