Blog Tour: Author Interview with Emma Meade

I’m hosting a tour stop today for “The Awakening & Other Stories” blog tour. I sent some interview questions to author Emma Meade, and she was kind enough to reply to them.

1) Can you tell us about yourself?
Hi Cassidy and Cassidy’s readers. My name’s Emma Meade. I live in Ireland, and I love reading and writing supernatural fiction.

2) Can you tell us about your book?
The Awakening & Other Stories is a collection of 8 short tales. If you like vampires, witches, ghosts, creaky castles and the paranormal, you should find something you like in here.

3) What was the inspiration for your short story collection?
I had a few short stories I’d written many moons ago gathering dust. One in particular, “The Knocking”, was inspired by my Grandad. I decided I’d like to release them in a collection, so I wrote four new stories last year, and the result was The Awakening. The cover art for this book actually led me to writing “End of the Line”. I thought the girl sitting on the train tracks had an intriguing story to tell. She became Cassie, and you can read all about her in story number three.

4) What was the most challenging part about writing your book?
Making sure that every story in it had merit. I didn’t want to throw something in just to fill space. I know no one is going to like every story in a collection like this one, but I tried to make every tale appealing on its own.

5) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Nothing original I’m afraid. Just keep reading and writing. Pay attention when you’re reading your next novel. What makes the story work? What makes you raise your eyebrows? Jot down a few notes when you’re reading, and it will help you when you’re writing your own book.

6) If you could meet three authors (dead or alive), which authors would you choose?
Virginia Andrews (Deceased author of Flowers in the Attic and Dark Angel), Marian Keyes (this Irish writer is hilarious), and I guess any of the writers who contributed to the Point Horror series.

7) Can you tell us about your current work in progress?
I’m currently editing a coming-of-age novella set in New York. It’s got my usual sprinkling of vampires and humans.

Thanks for the interview, Emma! 🙂

Author Bio

Author PicEmma Meade lives in rainy Ireland. She loves vampires, slayers, witches, ghosts, aliens & shadow men (or at least the youngest of the Shadow Men), and regular people who live extraordinary lives (think Slayerettes and you’re on the right track).

Books, DVDS & TV show boxsets take up lots of space in her home, and she collects all the Point Horror books she can get her hands on.

Writing supernatural stories and watching marathon re-runs of Buffy are some of her favourite ways of escaping reality.
