I’m hosting a review with romantic suspense author Catherine Lavender today. Catherine is the author of “Eighty-Eight Keys”, a novel that released on January 29th 2013. Since I’m working on a romantic suspense novel right now as well, I’m more than thrilled to interview an author in that genre on my blog!

Bold are the questions I asked, italics are Catherine’s responses!

1) Please tell us about yourself.

I’m from Baltimore, Maryland but now reside in Tampa, Florida with my miniature schnauzer name Ripken. I’m an animal activist, as well as a supporter of the organization First Book which helps supply literature for underprivileged children. In my spare time, I enjoy reading classic literature and playing the acoustic guitar. I’m also a huge Ravens fan (Super Bowl Champs)!

2) Tell us about your book in five sentences or less.

My book is about a young woman name Leah who is trying to break free from a strict religious background and pursue her dream as a pianist in the world of show business. While trying to find her independence her heart is held captive by Jason Rowe a local basketball star who established an organization to help troubled youth. When Jason is found murdered in his home, Leah is determined to get answers from a closed investigation. During her state of emotional turmoil, Leah finds comfort not only in the melody of her music, but in the arms of a married man named Calvin. With her dreams at her fingertips, Leah is tangled in a web of lies and deceit. Despite the fear of learning the truth, Leah has to realize that only the truth can set her free.

3) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Never give up on your dream. I know the road of becoming a published author can be challenging, but never give up on telling the world your story.

4) Where did you get the inspiration for Eighty-Eight Keys from?

Life is the inspiration behind everything that I write. I think life itself is one giant story book filled with adventure, sorrow, joy, obstacles, and victories.

5) Music is a large part of the book – are you a musician? If so, what instrument do you play?

I love music, and I listen to all genres of music even music from overseas. My favorite music artist is Katie Melua, and I love playing the acoustic guitar.

6) If you could meet with three authors (dead or alive), which ones would you like to meet?

Phillis Wheatley – She was the first African American writer to be published and recognized internationally as an author.

Edgar Allan Poe – I think he’s one the greatest authors who ever lived. I’ve never read words that could be so romantic and dark, beautiful yet chilling at the same time.

William Bernhardt- my favorite modern day author, I love all of his work.

7) Can you tell us about your current work in progress?

I’m working on my second novel ‘Shadow of a Yardbird’ which is a suspense novel about a homicide detective name Charlie that is gambling with his life and career because of an obsession to catch a serial killer. His wife Rebecca who is trying to get out of their failing marriage feels that she is being secretly watched and is starting to lose her sanity. Both struggling with family conflict and trying to keep their life on track. Charlie and Rebecca are afraid to trust anyone, not even each other.

That sounds like a great read! Thanks for visiting my blog.
