Grant started to get up, “Okay,” he said, “I think that is enough questions for one sitting, you guys have two weeks to ask Sydney all you want to know.”
“Wait a minute,” his Mother said, “Sit back down, we won’t ask any more questions. Let’s just go over a few things now that we are in town. We know you two have become very close and probably have your own routine. We are fine with you guys spending the night together here or at Sydney’s house. We just have a few concerns,” she said.
I was squeezing Grant’s hand under the table completely mortified by the conversation we were having with his parents. I could feel my face turning red. His father was sitting back in his chair, one hand around the back of his wife’s chair, the other holding his beer, taking a drink he winked at Grant. Grant just smiled and shook his head. His Mother continued, “We are happy that you two are having a great summer together, we just want to make sure you are taking precautions and not having unprotected sex,” my mouth dropped open, I closed it fast, I didn’t want her to see me so shocked by her bluntness.
Grant said, “Mom, she is on the pill and I am using a condom every time, is that good enough for you?” I turned to look at him with my mouth dropped open again. Now I know my face is bright red.
“Also, Sydney you should keep some clothes here so you don’t have to wear Grant’s clothes, I mean that is fine once and a while but, like today, I am sure you would feel much more comfortable in your own clothing.” My eyes got so wide I thought I would die of embarrassment right here at the table. Thank goodness my phone started buzzing, I looked over to Grant, he was shaking his head and taking a drink of his beer.

“Grant, I have to go,” I told him.
“No, please talk to me, will you talk to me… tell me how you feel.”
I am dying right here on the patio.
“What do you want me to tell you, that all is forgiven and we can be together?”
“Is that an option?” he asked me. I laughed a little.
“It is going to take more than one phone call asking for me to forgive you for it to be an option,” I told him.
